The Christmas Experience

This Christmas Break, my family is going to be very active. Although we are not going to visit our cousins in other states, they are coming to visit us. We still have to put up the lights and get a tree for our house. With decorations needed quickly, getting ready for our cousins' visit over the break will be fun. For Christmas I want many things. Firstly, I want to have fun with my family, and win at everything I do, since my family is very competitive. I do not really want any specific present this year, and I always want my presents to be a surprise. With a surprise waiting at Christmas time, I feel like I am always excited to see what it will be. Our cousins are coming in on Christmas Day, which can allow us to get together from Christmas to the New Year. All of the things that we will do over the break is still unknown, but it will be fun no matter what the activity.

College Dreams

I am a high school student at Life School, and plan to move on to college one day. By going to college, I believe that I can accomplish many goals in my life. Getting a well paying job, becoming successful in life, and making friends that will be by my side for the rest of my life. I believe that I am going to college for myself, but sometimes it feels like my parents are pushing me to achieve success. This can be stressful, but in the end, I see that college is the best choice for the next step in my life. When choosing the college right for me, there are a few things that would help me choose. A smaller sized, christian college with a lower tuition that most colleges would be the most fitting for me. This is because this type of college can become very cheap with scholarships involved, which can keep my focus in life on goals and not finances. My peers that have recently gone to college can be the best source for my college experience, but it is always nice for an elder to help me with my final decisions. College, as I stated earlier can help my life stay on track for some future goals. With a good job, and financial security in life after college, this can be a big step in my life.

During Thanksgiving, my family and I will be spending time in Arkansas with our cousins. Over the break, my brother and I will be going to basketball practices, and a game on Tuesday. It is not very fun to have some of your break taken away, but it is okay since it is basketball. At our cousins house in Arkansas, we will get together and have a good time. Thanksgiving night is when we will have our "feast" with the whole family there. There will be turkey, smoked ham, gravy, mashed potatoes, and cranberry sauce. Have a Happy Thanksgiving, and have a great time with the fam!

Job Opportunities on the Web

A job that would be ideal for a person like me is being a tutor. This is a part time job that can be well paying and not too stressful. Having a tutoring job can help a person make fast money, and help younger students soften their work load. Tutoring is a great part-time job for many reasons. Firstly, it only requires a few hours of work in a day, or even in a whole week. The lower hours compared to a normal job allows students more time to work on their own homework, and study time. Another way that tutoring can be helpful to a full-time student is the pay. When you are in high school, you always feel like you need a little extra money so you can go out to eat or go and see a movie with your friends. When tutoring, you get payed money that can be used for activities such as the two above. The last thing that tutoring can do is help both sides of the job. The student and the tutor both feel accomplished after the job has been done. The student has learned more, and the tutor has helped the student finish parts of their homework that they did not understand. Having an interview for becoming a tutor can be a simple task. Since you will be meeting with a student, you will most likely have to meet with the parent or parents of the student before you begin. This is a one on one interview process that allows the parent to get to know the tutor, as well as the tutor to know what kind of job they are getting into. Finding a job online can be very difficult. It is a long process, but in the end you can find the perfect job that you need for your very busy schedule.

Homeless to Harvard

The film Homeless to Harvard was a very touching film. The film was over a homeless girl who had great potential, and finally exerted her skills in an essay application for a scholarship in the New York Times. She had come from a poor, druggy family, and did not have much of a life to look forward to in that environment. There were many great parts, but there was one that I liked the best. When Liz gave her speech in the room with all of the readers of her essay was a very emotional part. She told her whole story, and this is what allowed her to touch many of their lives. Because of this emotional scene, she was able to get a scholarship from the New York Times and get into Harvard fully paid for. Liz was a very resilient person, and I do not think that I could be as resilient as her and achieve as much as she did. Her determination got her very far in life, and I on the other hand, do not see my self as being as determined to achieve my goals in life. Liz was a very brave and determined person, and I wish that I could become as determined as much as she was in her life.

College Budget

The college budget numbers surprised me. I expected the budget to have more money available per month for me to spend. I did not expect the budget to be so much money for all of the minor things that do not consist of school work. I am not sure if I am ready to take all of the responsibility of working so much, but I think I will be better prepared by my Senior year. I now know how much the colleges of my choice cost, and will be ready for the experience. This project will help me be ready for the expectations of the college, so I can be ready to face the challenge head on.

Accounting

The career that interests me the most is accounting. The main reason that I want to be an accountant is that you deal with numbers all day, which is the only thing I am good at in school. Math has been my favorite and the easiest subject for me, so why would I not want to pursue a career with math as the main priority? There is no reason why. Accounting is something that I have wanted to try ever since being a child. They make decent money, and can meet some famous people if they want you to be their accountant. For me, accounting would be the best fit for my skills in my opinion. Besides accounting, not many careers are interesting to me.

Stress

There are a few things in my life that stress me out. Procrastination is probably the main cause of stress when it comes to my life. Procrastinating on schoolwork and everyday activities gives me a bit of stress when it gets to the end of a day. At school I hardly ever get stressed over anything. It may be because I am not a very serious person, and do not get too stressed over typical assignments. I took a stress test just before I started this blog and got a 7 out of 24, which shows that not very many things stress me out. The stress test had questions over anything from gossip to the amount of sleep you get. I guess being a fun person can help reduce stress levels for everyday activities. The top stress related activity for teenagers in my opinion, is relationships. This does not surprise me because this is the time when everyone starts to date, and it becomes a distraction throughout the day. People can stress over how they look and how they act around each other. There are many ways that are easy to break stress. Just sitting down and doing nothing is my favorite thing to do when I get stressed, but moving onto a different thing can also help keep your mind from the stressful activity.

Organization

I currently have no organization method that I use. I have tried a planner, but I am too lazy to keep up with it. Procrastination is one of the biggest things that hurts me when it comes to school. I procrastinate on every project I get, which is not a good habit. I can start the day the assignment is given to try and win the battle against procrastination.

Expectations

In College Transition 2014-15, I hope to get some experience with how college will be. Firstly, with all colleges you have to apply. The application step in the main key to getting scholarships and just simply getting into college. A College Transition class is the best way to learn how and when to apply for colleges. Another thing I hope to get out of this class is ability to learn how to blog for colleges. Blogging is used in college and it is good to get experience with in high school. Starting early will help us students grasp how to blog, and will make it easier for us in college. Those are the two main things I would like to get out of this class, but I am open to any new experiences this class may hold.
